How to Choose the Perfect Bed for Your Kitten or Adult Cat

One of the most common questions new cat parents ask is which type of bedding is best for their cat. Should they get an actual cat bed with plenty of space or maybe just a few soft blankets instead? How do you know which bedding they actually prefer? Your ultimate goal is to keep them warm and cozy during their nightly or daily slumber.

As pet owners, ensuring our feline friends have a cozy and comfortable place to rest is essential for their overall well-being. Whether you have a playful kitten or a mature adult cat, selecting the right bed is crucial in providing them with a safe and restful environment. Our aim is to guide you through the factors to consider when choosing the perfect bed for your beloved feline companion.

Just like humans, cats love to stretch out and find their perfect sleeping position. When choosing a bed, consider the size of your furry friend. Kittens may enjoy smaller, enclosed beds where they feel secure, while adult cats typically prefer more spacious options to stretch and sprawl. Measure your cat from nose to tail to ensure you find a bed that accommodates their size comfortably.

Cats are drawn to soft and cozy materials that provide warmth and comfort. Look for cat beds made from plush fabrics or fleece, which will be inviting for your cat to rest in. Many cats also enjoy beds with raised edges or sides, giving them a sense of security as they curl up for a nap. Experiment with different textures to see which one your cat prefers.

Consider where your cat likes to sleep most frequently when choosing their bed. Some cats prefer elevated spots, so consider window perches or wall-mounted beds. Placing the bed in a quiet and comfortable area, away from high-traffic zones, will make it more appealing to your cat.

Every cat has its own unique personality and preferences. Observe your cat's behavior and reactions to different beds to find the one they gravitate towards. Some cats may prefer to sleep in high places, while others enjoy a cozy, tucked-in space.

What if your cat does not sleep in its bed? One of the biggest problems many cat parents have is once they have chosen what they think may be the perfect bed for their cat, it may actually be the worst thing ever bought in the house, at least from your cat's point of view. She sniffs it, eyes it, walks off and stares at it from across the room.

Sometimes since our cats love scents that are familiar to them like our laundry, it might be a good idea to place a blanket or sock with your scent on it into the new bed and see how your feline reacts to it. My cat loved to roll around in my laundry which I didnt understand at the time, but its quite similar to a baby recognizing its mother's familiar scent on a scarf or blanket when she is away. This familiarity brings a sense of comfort and calm. Try this and see how it works.

Choosing the right plush bed or for your kitten or adult cat is a thoughtful process that requires attention to their individual needs and preferences. The perfect bed will not only provide your feline companion with a comfortable place to rest but also offer a sense of security and well-being. Remember, a well-rested cat is a happy cat!
